Ephesians Reveals the Ideal Work Ethic for Business Owners and Employees
Here is a 10 question quiz to find out if your work ethic is grounded in the right place. (I took it too, I was surprised by what I found out about myself!)
- Do you show up early even by 5 minutes? (Late counts as: on-time or later)
- Home business owners do you schedule work time and show up at that time?
- Do you check personal email, Facebook, etc, while being paid by your employer? Or instead of doing productive work for your business?
- Do you procrastinate instead of work? (sorting, Facebook, Google, making lists etc.)
- Does it matter who gets the credit?
- Is “the man,” i.e. your boss or employees, to blame for the lack of success in the business?
- Are you busy when others are looking but slack when no one’s around?
- Are you respectful of other people’s time, money, property, and goals for their business?
- Do you show up with a mind to work?
- Is your attitude; “Do the best job I can and God will reward my efforts?”
- Is there any task beneath your pay grade that you’d be willing to help out with if needed?
Here is the Standard set in Ephesians.
Ephesians 6:6-9; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men. Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
Do you see the theme of accountability there? We are accountable to God. And he will bless our accountability to him. The biggest thing I learned from this verse is God’s standard of behavior is far higher than the world’s. What is okay at work or even with your boss, may not be okay with God. Who’s standard are we living by? Whose matters in the end? I’ll end the day with pride if I give every detail my 100% energy and focus. Or as a friend used to tell me; Just focus on the 5 feet in front of you. You’ll get far more done with less distractions. I hope this helps you today. God bless and make today a great day at work.
