My two-year old son recently learned the word “Owie”.
Here in Montana the clouds parted just enough so that I can put him in a pair of shorts. They are cute. Beyond cute, but they don’t protect him much from the occasional splat to the sidewalk at full toddler speed. According to my Mom radar is approximately 25 mph. (FYI: Mom at full speed: 23 mph)
Once the tears subside; he will point ever so carefully to the scab or bruise, and say “Owie.” His face shines with a fervor of understanding that tells me, this is as important to him as say…voting on the presidential election.
God put a lot of effort into creating our human form, to heal. Study after study confirms the body’s innate ability to overcome obstacles and heal. When the body cannot heal itself, who do we turn to? God. He is the greatest physician. He created this body of ours and designed all its inner workings. Even in David’s day he understood how special we are. Psalms 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
But what about my heart?
What about my mind? What about spiritual healing? These are invisible “owie’s” that hurt long after the crisis is over. These can remain hidden for years before they manifest into other problems. In the Greek, the word eusibia is translated as godliness. It’s technical translation according to usage is, God’s working from the inside out. When a plant germinates it grows without compulsion. From the inside out. Changes such as correcting wrong doctrine; which will often heal a heart instantaneously, or reproving wrong believing, is all done from the inside out. But how do you correct wrong doctrine and gain mental, spiritual and emotional healing?
First you have to be willing to believe God’s way, like David did in Psalms 139: 23-24; Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
It’s best to know what something is “not” as well as what it “is”. Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. When we are feeling tossed to and fro something is wrong. Doctrine is what to believe, there are two kinds; truth and error. The devil sprinkles error with truth so we’ll swallow it.
I have several friends who struggle with constant “tossing” around. They aren’t settled on what is the right way to believe. Consequently they run from one high to the next, whether it be in relationships, or achievements or physical pleasures such as; drugs and alcohol. It’s a destructive cycle that feels more like being in a hurricane than being planted firmly on solid ground. When they go “splat” to the sidewalk like my toddler, it is devastating. Let’s get this straight– I’m not a salad. I don’t like being tossed…anywhere. It creates a desperate feeling especially for women because we crave security. When a woman is tossed to and fro, it sends her life spinning.
So in conclusion how do we get the “owies” on the inside taken care of? Go to God (Pray with a listening ear) to get the picture, be willing to see it all. Read his word and find the right way to believe. It will change things from the inside out.
