Is That Really God’s Will For You?

Ephesians 2:9; Not of works, lest any man should boast

This verse is often quoted out of context. The next logical step, after it is quoted in error is, “I’m not getting anywhere by my own works, so I shouldn’t worry about working at all”. Or it leads to false humility, we’ve all seen the person who won’t fess up to doing a good job because they don’t want to get caught in a boast. Modern Christianity overflows with it.

Contextually this verse is talking about Ephesians 1 & 2 and our salvation being given by the grace of God as a gift. God so loved that He gave His only begotten Son, for what? For our salvation, for our opportunity to get born again. We couldn’t get in the door of heaven any other way. Once you’re inside that door, look around, find out what’s available and then go for it. Go, fight, win and enjoy the fruit of your labor.

Galatians 6:4; But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

Gal. 6:4, sounds like a huge contradiction if we shouldn’t be proud of ourselves. Pride is the bottom line here. The devil was kicked out of heaven for it, so it is a big deal not to get prideful. But there is a difference between pride, putting your opinion’s above God’s, and being proud of a job well done.

I suggest a better way!

James 1:5; If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Be proud that you listened to God. Be proud that you’ve grown enough to humble yourself. Then when you achieve the desired results, spiritual fruit, enjoy the will of God in manifestation, in your life. Abound in his peace of knowing you came through for God, your family, and yourself. When you’re there, I want to hear about how you kicked butt, took names and overcame the devil in your life by listening to God.

  1. WOW!! Many people have used this verse as a reason for inactivity. God has the victorious path all laid out for us, all we need to do is start moving out feet!! Very simply put. Excellent article!

    1. Thank you for your comments! That is exactly right. Being a victim is not a profession as some would like to make it into. We have so many reasons to succeed according to God’s Word. Now it’s a matter of applying it. I look forward to more of your thoughts in the future!
