Ephesians 2:12; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
The Messiah, the “promised one” from the Father, the fruition of the everlasting covenant/contract God made with Abraham. The Jews knew the Messiah was a big deal. They just didn’t know how. Even the apostles asked Jesus about it.
Acts 1:6; When they (apostles) therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
The Messiah was supposed to do that. They had watched the whole time Jesus was on the Earth waiting for that moment. They were sure he would swoop in and overthrow the five senses powers.
Hebrews 11:39; And these all, (Old Testament believers..) having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise.
What promise? Read chapter 11 of Hebrews. (link to Hebrews 11 in context)
Acts 13:32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
What was this Promise of the Father? Jesus knew about it,
Luke 24:49; And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Romans 4:16; Therefore [it is] of faith, that [it might be] by grace; to thee and the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all…
Romans 4:20; He (Abraham) staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21. And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform.
Let’s imagine you put a gorgeous, new house under contract and go through all the hoops to buy it. You endure the home inspection, appraisal, negotiations, closing day and pay all the money owed. Then the day you could move in to enjoy it, you decided to continue living in your rat infested, moldy, broken down apartment on the bad side of town.
Wouldn’t that be odd?
I ask you this…with all this promise business and finally the contract fulfillment being the holy spirit, why would a believer deny the power and all its manifestations? God went to all that trouble! Yet, we insist on living in the broken down apartment versus the gorgeous new house. This promise was a big deal to the believers of the Old Testament. They died hoping they would see this day! How far below par are we willing to continue living in THIS day and age? Join me in this mission of burgeoning the hope that Jesus Christ won us. Join me in the winning back of our minds and hearts for that covenant. Join me in living BIG on this wonderful promise one thought at a time.
John 10:10; The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly!
God bless you today in this mighty promised abundant life!
