Functional Deliverance For the Everyday Christian

Ephesians 3:20: Now unto him that is able to do exceeding, abundantly, above, all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us!

You are rolling along with your new spiritual S.U.V. enjoying the beautiful scenery around you, when all of a sudden, BLAMO! The devil sends a windstorm through the area. A windstorm of grief, sorrow, depression, and fear that is trying to cause collateral damage. He tries convincing you that a new boyfriend/girlfriend, or a new job will solve all your problems. Then he tells you that if you don’t change (fear motivation, pressure) you’ll wind up miserable and lonely. These are the tactics of an old enemy. Pleasure and pressure are his two fronts. We live in a world he designed to constantly throw these two fronts at you, the human, the Christian. In the midst of this God offers functional deliverance.

What is “functional deliverance”? Functional means practical, useful, simple. Deliverance means (from Webster’s Dictionary) being freed, or rescued.

It is the Power that worketh in us! All the verses before this verse have built up to this verse.

95% of the Problem, is Recognizing the Problem

The next 5% is the easy part of solving it. When you see that the Devil is toying with you and laughing when you fall for the old pride trick. How do you feel?

Humility is when you put your pride aside and listen to what God wants you to do. Meekness is doing it.

What does God want you to do?

Believe that he is able to DO for you! Claim the truth of his Word in your life. When the devil throws doubt–stand firm on God’s promises. When the Devil pressures you to do something else besides hear or do the Word–stand firm. Resist! Trust me, as the 5% of the solution it’s not as hard as recognizing his work and you can ask God to show you that.

James 4:7-8a; Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

Resist the Devil and stand on the truth of God’s Word. God is able to do for you anything and everything you need him to do. Claim that promise. Because once you do without wavering you will see his,

in your life.
