Ephesians 4:1; I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.
Hello, how are you today?
We started into Chapter 4 of Ephesians a new transition from chapters, but also a new transition in Paul’s letter. The original letter didn’t contain chapters and verse structures. There are three main concepts in Ephesians. To read a post about them click concepts here.
In summary of that post; the first concept focused on where we are seated in Christ and what we got as a believer, the second focused on our walk as a believer, and the third chapter focuses on our stand as a believer. (SIT, WALK, STAND)
What is a vocation and how were we called?
What is vocation? Is it like a career in sales, or a doctor or something? (Keep in mind some of the tenses here. “Ye” is the plural pronoun meaning–you all.)
Klēsis is the Greek translated word for, “of the vocation” meaning: a call, invitation, of the divine invitation to embrace salvation of God. It is listed 11 times in the Bible.
This is salvation.
Who did God invite or call?
John 3:15-17; That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
“Calling” is the Greek word, in verse 1 of Ephesians, kaleō: to call, to call aloud, utter in a loud voice, to invite.
You see, we all have been called. We all have been invited. When someone randomly tells you, “Molly, I sense that you are called to the mission field”, or to the music program, or to the children’s ministry. You know that, we’ve all been “called”.
God has a some specific ideas of what would be ideal for your physical talents. But God will let you know first about any of those plans and thoughts. If I was wondering what I was supposed to do with my life, I’d read and rightly divide this next verse.(And many more like it.)
Romans 2:12; And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
When you renew your mind to the Word of God you have power and you are doing the Will of God. The Devil loves to get us off on tangents that waste our time. I’m not saying don’t do the music or children’s church if you want and have time to, just know that it’s your choice to do that. Those are you’re physical talents. Keep in mind that the Bible regards to the spiritual realities. Jesus Christ was constantly explaining to his Apostles physical analogies and relating them to spiritual truths. They thought he was going to overthrow the physical government but he overthrew the spiritual government. A far greater accomplishment.
2 Corinthians 5:18; And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.
Reconciliation is to reconnect what was once separated. God and man were once separated and now can eternally be connected by what Jesus Christ did. That’s our ministry. To help God reconnect with his kids and help him “invite” others.
Can you know your calling?
YES! And thank God for it!
