Ephesians 4:4; [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Everything has to have name. Does that make them all the same thing?
One body? One Spirit? One Hope? That adds up to three right? Why don’t we start a new church called the Body-tarians. But wait a minute… they are separate things! Not the same thing!
You are right!
Let’s look at each one.
Is this a corpse? Is it the body of the lambs they used to slaughter to sacrifice? What does this mean? The Greek word is sōma. Sōma is listed 3 more times in this chapter and 144 times in the New Testament. Referring to various meanings from a real physical body to the body of Christ, or members of the Church of God. How can we know? Context. Here is how it’s used in the rest of this chapter.
Ephesians 4:12; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body4983 of Christ
Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body4983 fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body4983 unto the edifying of itself in love.
In context Paul is clearly saying there is one body of Christ.
I thought we all have spirit inside us and the devils are spirits too. What gives? Right.
Pneuma is the Greek word for spirit. Spirit in general. Holy or unholy. So how do we know it refers to Holy? You already know.
Context. Our verse today is part of the sentence in 5 & 6 as well. Lets put them together to get our full meaning.
[There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.
To paraphrase. These are all building blocks to one great reality. That God connected us all to Him by this spiritual familial connection. God poured out the gift of himself, (God is Holy, God is Spirit) on the day of Pentecost thereby gaining us as sons and daughters forever. He sowed his spiritual DNA to our souls, cells, and the very fiber of our being on the day we were baptized (believed Romans 10:9-10) and got born again.
One Hope of Our Calling
This is our ticket out of this mess,and we got all of this by what Jesus Christ did.
Is anyone else as excited to see this laid out so clearly in the Word? God explains it all! There is no mystery in this process, no secrets, no hidden agendas! THAT is how the Devil operates and we aren’t his anymore!
