Ephesians 5:8; For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light.
My son woke up crying last night. I ran to the hallway flipped on the light and there he was. If you can picture this, he was laying upside down at the end of his bed holding himself up off the floor. I can only imagine he worked his way down to the bottom past the bed rail and slowly slipped off the end head first while still asleep. Then woke up half way through a good fall, 4 inches away, and caught himself. It was a sleepy handstand. But I decided later I was glad I had turned on the light first instead of charging into the black room not knowing where he was. I would’ve assumed he was at the head of his bed. Yikes!
This word “darkness” from the above verse in the Greek is skotos. It means blindness or walking in darkness.
2 Corinthians 4;4; In whom the god of this world (the devil) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
As a natural man we had no spiritual reference in this dark world.
1 Corinthians 2:14; But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.
We have the light for others to see with as well. It’s called the Word of God, the Bible.
Psalms 119:105; Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
1 John 1:5-7; This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Let’s boil it all down.
God lit us up with a million watt bulbs from the inside out, but we are the ones who decide to use that light on our journey. Light dispels darkness, but not one shred of darkness can put out the tiniest light.
Matthew 5:14-16; Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
And that is the sweetest gift we got from Jesus Christ. Have a great day enjoying the light of the Word shining in your life!
