Are You an “Age of Grace” Woman?

The Age of Grace Woman

Hi! I have an exciting post about Priscilla, a believing woman, and her believer husband Aquila. There are 5 places through out the 7 church epistles that this woman was mentioned along with her team mate Aquilla. I say team mate because the Word does not haphazardly shove names in of people who do not need be mentioned.

Acts 18:2; And (Paul) found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

 She was a

Believer, Business Owner, Friend, Wife, & Busy Woman

Aquila and her husband were business owners and very busy people. Paul stayed with them and worked together with them. How much do you suppose they shared of the miracles and blessings God was doing in their lives. Paul was an Apostle, he taught them what he was learning about the Mystery, the manifestations of the holy spirit. He was performing miracles and preaching in their home and in the synagogues. Any woman who’s ever played hostess knows this is one busy lady. Priscilla was an “Age of Grace” woman. Everyone vaunts the Proverbs 31 woman high in religious circles, but what about her? She was a true minister of the Word along side her husband.

Acts 18:24; And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, [and] mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

Apollos was teaching all he knew of the scriptures. Which turned out to be much less than what Paul taught. In fact, he was still teaching about another age, the “Age of Christ”, not the “Age of Grace”. This is the short time period of Jesus’s walk on the earth and before the day of Pentecost when God gave us all a chance to become his kids.

Acts 18:25: This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

His heart was pure and zealous for God. But John the Baptist’s teaching is as far as he’d been led.

John the Baptist died before the day of Pentecost all he knew was the Messiah, Jesus Christ, was here. That is missing a few things and  frankly, he couldn’t even get people born again. It was like having a bike with two flat tires and a missing chain.

Who Taught the Teacher?

Acts 18:26; And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto [them], and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Leadership Side Note: Are you as brave as Apollos is? He could have told Aquila and Priscilla to buzz off. Instead he allowed them to teach him something new. His humility is his defining characteristic here. I’m sure there were tons of people this power couple witnessed too who didn’t change their minds.

They taught him what Paul taught them. They taught him about Jesus’s death, resurrection, the manifestations and speaking in tongues, miracles, healing, discerning of spirits. The whole works! Then what happened?

Acts 18:27; And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace: For he mightily convinced the Jews, [and that] publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

Apollos was what God calls a “door of utterance” for the Word. There are some people who will stop at nothing until it is heard, but first they need to learn it. Are you the next Priscilla? Are you a humble and busy woman who was willing to teach and team up with someone? There are talented people out there waiting to hear from you.

Leadership Side Note: Apollos “job” was different than that of Aquila and Priscilla’s only in that he boldly went to the synagogues and convinced the Jews. Where Priscilla and Aquila taught the babes, leaders, and Gentiles, as is seen later, how to more perfectly manifest the holy spirit. We all have a specific job for God. Go to him with a “can do anything attitude,” and he’ll show you more perfectly the way towards your life’s purpose.

God bless you today!
