1 Thessalonians 1:3; Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.
What an incredible verse! The real understanding comes after you know the Greek behind it.
First, Paul is not saying “remembering them without ceasing. It is literally translated “with careful attention and perseverance.” He is not remembering them “all the time without stopping.” How would he get anything else done? He was saying as he heard about their work of believing, he was giving it his careful attention. The word “work” here is the Greek word that means; “any work or business” of the faith. The word “labor” is little different it is the Greek word “toil,” or “work until you are fatigued.” There is a great contrast between these two levels of work.
The Thessalonians were not just praying for people and believing God, (though they did that too) they were laboring until fatigued. That’s some hard work! The Greek word for “love” is God’s love, agape. God’s incredible spiritual love operated by our freewill decision. These people were; ministering healing, seeing signs and wonders, and weren’t giving up on people until they saw God’s greatest goals come to pass. No wonder Paul was so attentive! What a committed group of people!
Here is how it lays out, Paul is giving careful attention to their;
1.) Work (any work or business) of Faith (believing).
2.) Labour (toil, or work until fatigued) of Love (Agape).
3.) Patience (Genuine steadfast and the endurance) of Hope (the hope of Christ’s Return).
These are 3 characteristics to look for when searching for God’s committed leaders in your vicinity. This takes a whole new level of commitment, not to a man or woman, but to God. These folks may not wear a fancy hat, shawl, or title. If your heart is to truly bless, God will let you know who they are. When you find someone with that kind of heart, pray for them. Ask God what to do to bless them. Be thankful for them. They may need your help, but God is the only one who knows what their need is. These are the folks on the battle field I described yesterday. They are the ones fighting for God with the dedicated grit and determination of a warrior. They reach in behind enemy lines and pull out the victims of the Devil’s sabotage. They are the spiritual snipers, infantry, and tank units. When these powerhouses roll through the valley of human suffering, an empowered group follows them out and into the freedom of God’s love.
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13; And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. [And] be at peace among yourselves.
Be thankful for the committed believers around you, because at one point in your life someone like this prayed for you.
God bless you today!
