It’s an election year. Our candidates would like for us to believe that they offer the hope of change for our lives. Some of them think they are the only one holding the keys to this elusive offer. And if you act fast then you’ll be one of the first one hundred callers…wait that’s a Zumba commercial. Hold on — would that new set of pans make me a healthier cook, or that drug would make the funny twitch in my left leg — that only happens at night, and only on Tuesdays, and only after I eat too many avocados– go away and give me the youthful glow I’ve always dreamed of?
Hopeth All Things
“Keep the various aspects of the Hope alive in your heart and life. Keep the Hope burning before your eyes. Allow your heart to be filled with the anticipation, stamina and excitement that comes with it.” 1 Corinthians 13:7 (CLT)
What hope? A kaleidoscope of hopes practically invade my sleep at night! Is this “all”, all without exception, or is it all with distinction? How can hope give me stamina, excitement and (yawn) anticipation? Frankly, I’m weary of everyone else’s brand of hope.
First, how important is hope?
“And now abideth faith, hope, charity (Love), these three; but the greatest of these [is] charity.” vs.13
That list is short, it is in context of the our characteristics (same chapter even) and has three little things in it. Faith, or believing, hope, and love. Wait now…didn’t we just spend the last two weeks going over the characteristics of LOVE? How could hopeth all things be connected to God’s Love, when here it says its separate? Believing is in there too. What gives?
They are all entertained. Like body, soul and spirit. Can you live with just body and soul as a natural man, as it says in 1 Cor. 2:14? Sure! People do it all the time. But what is missing? Spirit! Can you have just hope or just faith? Sure, but what good are they if you don’t walk in God’s Love with them?
The hope is this truth;
“But I would not have you to be ignorant….For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep (are dead) in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede) them which are asleep (already dead). For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thess. 4:13-18
God’s love and our faith launches us toward heaven in this moment. It is something unseen, a future event that will take place when God decides it should. No one knows when it will happen. What is the big hypothesis for 2012? It has to do with the Mayan Calendar? Yes, the total annihilation of the world is supposed to happen. Does that create a burning hope inside you? I’d say it creates more fear than anything. Is fear from God? God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. Did the human-sacrificing, idol-worshippers called the Mayans have sound minds? Not hardly. So who do we believe? God or the devil? Our hope is fresh, loving and in full operation every time we pray in tongues. We know this because it says it here;
“Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail (end); whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease(end); whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away.” 1 Corinthians 13:8
These are some of the manifestations or tools wrapped inside the gift of holy spirit God gave us for this day and time. Tools to fight off the devil and his error-filled plans for humanity. Why are the manifestations going to end? When is the stopping point? Well, we aren’t going to need them in heaven are we? Miracles, discerning of spirits, perfect prayer, prophecies, faith, healing etc? So we know if we cannot speak in tongues then the gathering together has passed. It is a sign that the hope is yet to come. Now, does that keep it alive in your life? YES! In huge ways. Do you see how faith is indivisible from love and the hope? They are linked, connected, fused, flowing in the same veins of the same vessel together. We need them all. Faith, Hope and LOVE! Wow. Are you as excited as I am right now?
Don’t you just love seeing the Word come to life before your eyes? I do. Man this is what life is all about!!
Have a great day, because it is just the first of the rest of eternity together!
God Bless You!
