What keeps us defeated in times of chaos, disorder, and panic? If there is a storm headed our way, what do we do to stop it from hurting us? Today, I’d like put a kibosh on several lies that defeat Christians in their walk. Once you see them, you’ll be ready to face any storm, shout in its face and keep it from harming your family.
First, you are a child of the most high God. This is incredibly important. That adoption process included some awesome perks. I’ll cover this more in the third point.
Second, people call hurricanes, tornadoes and the like, “acts of God.” Yet, they cause harm, destruction, and general unbelief–if not anger–at God. Why would God want you not to believe Him? There is however, according to 2 Cor. 2:4, a god of this world who is able to tamper with the weather. Earth is where he fell and earth is what he hopes to destroy. He is limited on earth by the prayers of believers like you and I through the power of God. We have the authority through the powerful name of Jesus Christ to stop his movements.
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.” James 1:13
“Tempted” is the Greek word, peirazō which means to try or test ones faith or character for virtue. Wow! God never does this. Why? He is good always. He isn’t in the business of manipulating you for His own purposes. He presents truth. You have the choice to believe it. “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all…” 1 John 1:5. Why, as a parent, would I put my precious three-year-old in harm’s way to teach him a lesson? That’s called child abuse. God is the greatest parent. And He says He’ll never do that, ever. So who made up this testing you stuff? Yep. Our adversary. Why would that be a beneficial lie for him to convince you of? Well, then he could tempt, test, and persecute Christians and blame it all on God. Right? So let’s get rid of that notion. There are hundreds of times in the Bible that state God is looking out for us, He wants us safe and protected. So is God sending a hurricane at us to test us? NOOO.
Third, When huge storms hit, is it the end times prophecies, foretold in Revelations, coming to pass? Are we living in the end times? Let me ask you this. If you think we are in the end times, will you pray to stop it? Here’s what I’ve noticed. People who believe we are living in the end times tend to lay down and accept the beating. Will you pray for protection against these things or believe for a miracle to stop the devil from handing it out? No. You’ll mildly lay down and die because there’s no way to stop the “end times” from coming. We don’t know we’re living in the end times. Jesus Christ said, “And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.” It’s not our concern when he’s coming back either.
We also need to re-look at our time periods. The “end times” persecution happens in the end times. The end times do not happen before Revelations, and Revelations all occurs after Jesus Christ returns to take us all home. We, who believe God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, are going to be in heaven partying it up with Jesus Christ and the rest of our spiritual family. Look at the seventh verse of Revelations.
“Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they [also] which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” Revelations 1:7
It’s after this point that the terrible floods, hurricanes and earthquakes take out the earth. Why? The devil doesn’t have believers around keeping his activity in check. This is the event we are all looking forward to. It’s the day in which God sends Jesus Christ back to gather His children and come home. Before that time we are given the gift of holy spirit and its manifestations for power and believing here on earth. It is power for us to use. Otherwise why dispense it? Why give us word of wisdom, word of knowledge, or tongues? Why do we need the gift of healing, faith, miracles, or discerning of spirits? Why, if not for our blessing and protection? There is a time when these will cease.
“Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” 1 Cor. 13:8-10
When is the “perfect” going to come? This verse is about a specific moment in time. We received the gift of holy spirit on the day of Pentecost. That was a moment in time. This gift is a earnest or a down payment on our new spiritual bodies, for we know in part, but on the day Christ returns, we will know fully because we will be changed. The perfect, or fully mature, will have come.
“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory?” 1 Corinthians 15:51-55
On that day, our lives will be joined fully with our heavenly Father. But until that moment in time, He gave us a powerful gift for our blessing and protection. A gift to be used as the need arises. At any point that we ask, we shall receive. Do you believe that? Jesus Christ did, Paul did, Peter did. Why can’t you? If some problem, storm, sickness, emotional upset or anything like that is headed at you, use that power. Ask God what you should pray for to get rid of the catastrophe heading your way. There’s no need to put up with the devil throwing his harm in your path. But he’d like you to think that you deserve it, or you’re not worthy.
You are a child of God.
“And his disciples came to [him], and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish, And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.” Matthew 8:26
Jesus said that we could do all these things and greater works. He needed to survive a storm too. He used the power he had to do so. We have that same ability through what God did in Christ in us. Triumph today! Rebuke the winds in the name of Jesus Christ. You have the power!
God bless you today!
