“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
How new is new? I’ve seen plenty of people believe Romans 10:9 for the first time and get “born-again”. I don’t see new on them anywhere? Pastors everywhere talk about that verse, but do we really understand it? What’s so new about the same old me? I have the same thoughts, habits and friends. I don’t get it. What really happens?
I was raised in a Baptist church and had these questions roll around in my head for a long time. I am so thankful to finally understand the actual “biomechanics” behind what God set up. If you remember the post God Gives Upgrades, you’ll remember the comment that it has to be easy enough for even a three-year old to do. It is! How exciting, and it proves that God is the giver because no one could duplicate a masterpiece like this one.
What really happens when you believe? What is being “in Christ”? First we need to know the basics. God is a Spirit.
“God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
The Kingdom of God rules over the Kingdom of Man, which rules over the kingdom of animals which is above and over the kingdom of plants. In the Garden of Eden, God gave man dominion of the plants and animals. Then He made man in His image. What is God? God is spirit. So what did He give to man? Spirit. God is Holy and God is spirit so He gave us what He is. Holy Spirit. But He gave it conditionally in the garden and when Adam and Eve disobeyed they lost their Holy Spirit. Did they die physically? No. They lost the connection, or the portion of Holy Spirit God had given to them. After that changes occurred. They had to work the ground for their food and kill animals for meat. Were they still over those other kingdoms? Yes. But did they have dominion over everything on the earth? No. Why, because some of the members of God’s kingdom, spirits were kicked out of heaven and living on earth. These spirits were the devils’ 1/3 of the angels. Now, God devised a plan for man’s redemption, but this time He didn’t want them to lose the spirit connection if they messed up. The only way He could do that was by paying the ultimate price. The price of His son. Now we have the opportunity to have that spirit connection without losing it when we mess up.
“But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.” Ephesians 4:7
We receive a gift of grace because we don’t deserve it. This gift is so precious we couldn’t ever enough works in our whole lives to deserve it, yet here it is. This verse also says we are given a measure of the gift of Christ. Christ means the anointing, by the way. So what do we do when we measure something? We pour it into a cup and make sure it’s even with the line. Right? When I was a little girl, my mom used to measure out a bag of M&M’s and we all received 1/4 of a cup each. We stood watching like a hawk to make sure our brothers or sister didn’t get more than we had. God did the same thing with His precious gift. He measured it out and gave us the same amount each. He gave each one the anointing.
So what did we get when He pours it into us? Holy Spirit. A spirit is not a physical five senses thing. It is spirit. We can not feel it, we can not see it, touch it, taste it or even hear it without God bringing it into the physical world. Our Holy Spirit, our “measure” is created within us when we are born-again. It’s like God put in a phone line or an ap that will now understand and hear God when He talks. But you must be trained on how to use it. One of the first manifestations of the spirit is speaking in tongues. Speaking in tongues cannot be faked or fooled. When we speak in tongues that is our evidence in the physical world of the spiritual reality now living inside us. Everyone got the same measure, there fore everyone can operate that measure accordingly.
How many churches teach how to operate the measure of God’s anointing? Very few in my experience. This blog is designed to help you, the believer, get acquainted with the power you have and the applicable resource of God’s love. It’s designed to show you “how” to use what God gave you. When you get born again the next minute or five minutes you should be taught how to speak in tongues. That is the basic and the ideal. That is how they did it in the first century church. In fact they were surprised when people didn’t speak in tongues right away and immediately taught them.
“While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision (the Jews) which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter…” Acts 10:43-46
This is the account of Peter and Cornelius. Cornelius was the first Gentile they preached to and they could speak in tongues as well.
Look at this account.
“He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. (which did not include Jesus being raised from the dead) Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid [his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” Acts 19:2-6
This tells me there is a right way to believe and a wrong way. What did Paul do? He taught them straight away about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the how to speak in tongues. Wow! Paul was baffled that these men were claiming to be Christians but weren’t speaking in tongues.
Paul says later, “I would that ye all spake with tongues…” 1 Corinthians 14:5 and, “Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.” vs. 39
This is just one of the nine operations that you can be taught how to operate. Isn’t this exciting? God did not leave us powerless, or without a weapon for our enemy. Jesus Christ got our dominion back. Are you as excited as I am? How does your measure of Holy Spirit work? Here is the start. We’ll continue to explain as we move through them here.
God Bless You Today!
