How Do We Defeat Our Greatest Enemy?

Today’s verse reveals all the potential and the eternal greatness God sowed into every fiber of our bodies. But to understand that greatness, first we must recognize the enemy. We must first understand the travesty plaguing humanity. How could we not know it? It echoes through the aching cries of men and women, husbands and wives, children and friends throughout history who’ve lost loved ones. The travesty is that death. Death is sown into the frailty of our human bodies. We are a death-prone people. Death causes anguish. Many have feared it to the point they deny it and believe they will be reincarnated again and again and again. Some even worship death, revere it, and try to make it more palatable. Yet, if it is so honorable, why has Man tried for eons to avoid it. Innately people fear death. The Bible talks about Death in 1 Corinthians 15:26, “The last enemy [that] shall be destroyed [is] death.” If this is true and the Word means what it says and says what it means, then Death cannot be from God, the greatest life-giver.

The devil believed he won when Jesus Christ was finally dead. For three days he triumphed over God’s son. He had killed him. He had succeeded. He had successfully defeated mankind forever. SO HE THOUGHT.

What did God, the creator, the maker of all things under heaven and the Author of Life DO? He raised His son from the clutches of the cold hard earth. He gave Him back Life! It was not just life, but a new spiritual body imbued with power and fantastic abilities. It was the first of its kind, a new creation. WOW! What a moment! Just imagine that moment when Jesus Christ looked down on his new spiritual body radiating pure life-quickening spirit and light. Imagine that for just a moment.

As a natural man, stumbling around in this world blindly falling into traps and potholes set up by the enemy, you are like Jesus Christ in those three days. You are dead. There is no life in you. Then….in one fractured second of believing, your eternal fate changes.  You are no longer a defeated soul. God super-naturally, through an act of creation, pours His eternal DNA and life quickening spirit into you! Every cell, every neuron, every hair of your head is filled to capacity with God’s gift.  You are now more than a conqueror. You have won. You are on the winning team and now have eternal LIFE. Wow! I’ve got goosebumps.

What did we just do?

We experientially experienced the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We know it with every fiber of our lives. We did our verse today.

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.” Philippians 3:10

We, you and I, had fellowship, (koinonia=full sharing) with his sufferings (what Jesus endured). The fellowship above refers to the baptism into Jesus Christ. This means that we were buried with him and raised up from the dead, now to walk completely in this new life as a new creation.

Look at this record in Colossians.

“Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

[And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:11-15

We have a new life because God put a new reality in it! We are no longer natural man, just body and soul. We have an added part, spirit. If we could just sit and absorb that truth. Jesus Christ, our super hero, knew the devil’s plans. He knew his  enemy. In that moment of victory Jesus Christ nailed OUR old man, our old sin conscious, all our trespasses to the cross and spoiled principalities and powers by paying for them in full. He triumphed in this reclamation of God’s purpose and made a show of them openly. Devil you lost forever!

Here’s the clincher, the devil knew God would raise His son from the dead. It had been foretold in the Bible. This wasn’t a surprise. What the devil did not know, was that all mankind would be given the opportunity to be born-again. He did not know that we could experience the new birth. He did not know that we could fellowship or fully share with Jesus in his death, AND his resurrection. We have won! The moment we believe Romans 10:9-10 we win, eternally!

Folks, if we only knew the half of this wonderful truth. If we simply grasped a small part of our sonship rights, our fantastic new abilities and our power through the name of Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ, a man, defeated man’s worst enemy. Death. And in the end death will be destroyed forever. When is the end? Only God knows, but for now, you and I can rejoice in our new beginnings!

God Bless You Today!
