Have you ever physically slammed your finger hard with a hammer? It hurts doesn’t it. If someone were to come up to you just then and tell you something important for you to remember, you’d have a very hard time remembering it because the pain would be overwhelming. In a few minutes, you’d be alright but wowzah! During that painful moment or two when your nerves are screaming at your brain that something catastrophic just happened down at the end of your hand, you’d be incapacitated.
Our nervous system is the mirror to our physical reality. It helps us feel and understand.
We have three parts body, soul and spirit.
Now, lets translate that to your soul life. What kind of catastrophic moments happen to your soul? Well, first let’s look at what makes a healthy and happy soul.
Soul life includes all the following areas: family, children, and or marriage relationships. It also includes our education, financial prosperity, business, culture such as: musical talent, hobbies, crafts, fine art, photography. Our home. Our emotional well-being in all these areas causes balance. Clutter and disorder in these areas create continual inconvenience and stress. It’s like our emotions are the nerve center of our heart and when something collides or hits one of these areas, those emotions/nerves scream at our brain that something catastrophic happened to us. We have a hard time focusing or remembering.
Emotions are the mirrors to our Soul Life’s Reality. They help us feel and understand.
If our soul lives are a mess, relationships, home, business etc…,our emotions reflect that. Some of us are better at hiding that mirror of our emotions than others. In any case God offers a solution to this continued state of raw nerves and screaming nerves.
The Gift of Holy Spirit is greater part of our three parts. Body and soul must obey spirit. Spirit beings are higher on the proverbial authority. Just as the plant kingdom is under the animal kingdom which is under the kingdom of man. Man resides under the kingdom of God. A natural man (a man of body and soul only) could never command a devil spirit to leave because he is body and soul and has no authority over spirit. That would be like a plant commanding a cow not to eat it. Here is an example.
“Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of [one] Sceva, a Jew, [and] chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.” Acts 19:15
These evil spirits practically laughed at those men trying to command them out. Then they turned on the Jewish priests and did bodily harm to them. Therefore the body and soul are under the thumb of devil spirits in this world because the Devil is the god of this world. (2 Corinthians 4:4) These evil spirits love to create catastrophe in man’s body, soul and spirit. The more disorder, clutter, inconveniences they can create the better opportunity they have to cause a tragedy.
Literally man is being victimized by a tyrant and overlord. A spirit that knows it’s a higher being and wants to steal, kill and destroy little ol’ mankind. How do you think the dinosaurs died and the cave men and the other ages of beasts and creeping things on this earth? When Noah built the ark, God saved eight lives from a flood that wiped the rest of mankind out. The devil almost succeeded again. The flood was caused by devil spirits working for the god of this world. How do I know? Because 2 Peter tells us how God punished them.
“By which also he (the risen Jesus Christ) went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which (at) sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” 1 Peter 3:20
The devil has tried again and again to wipe us out. He even had Herod try to kill Jesus after he was born by killing all the baby boys under two years old. Yep, the devil is not our friend. He is our enemy.
So why are we, this age of mankind, so special and different from the cave men? Two verses tell us.
“So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:27-28
This is a loaded section but first what is God? He is the king and ruler of all Spirit. He is Holy and He is Spirit. He made man in HIS image. In other words, God made man three parts Body, Soul and Spirit. Adam was the first of his kind with all three. This had never happened before in history. Then God told them to be fruitful and multiply and REplenish the earth. How can you REplenish something if it was not plenished or full before at some point. Wow. Yes, there were people, but they never had any spiritual connection to God. They were merely more than animals themselves. Why do you think that evolution has a big gap between Adam and the crow-magnum man? There is your answer. After Adam was kicked out of the garden of Eden he lost the spirit. Mankind was lost, but not without a promise that one day the spirit would be restored in a more permanent way. The Messiah would come and get us our connection back.
How does this relate to our verses today in Philippians?
“Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
[OUR VERSE TODAY:] “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
We needed to know the scope and size and ages before us, we needed to sense in some small way the greatness of what God has done in generations past. Sometimes our inconveniences seem to permeate our concentration and distract us from this larger picture, but my friend, you are not alone in them. God is big enough to care about the little things in your life. We have a choice, either we put Him in a box that says He couldn’t possible be that big or we let go and accept that HE IS THAT BIG! How much could a blade of grass understand a cow? That is the scope of our ignorance when it comes to God. But when we pray and take our body, soul and spiritual stresses to Him He promises He’ll give us His peace that passes all our understanding. If He can do that for the little daily inconveniences and stresses, imagine what He could do for our tragedies. He gives that peace in all three of our parts body, soul and spirit.
Our gift of Holy Spirit is the mirror to our spiritual reality. It helps us feel spiritual peace and understand God.
