Congratulations! We’ve reached our 600th blog. I pray God blesses your life and your day in a special way today.
What if you could have a life that screams abundance, fun, peace and prosperity? Do you think that would be a good testimony to those around you? God does.
Here is today’s verses.
“Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.” Philippians 4:14-17
Only the old English translators could get away with using a word like “notwithstanding”. What does that even mean? Thank goodness I have a copy of a well written literal translation.
Here is the Literal.
“In any case, you have done well in sharing abundantly with me in my time of pressure. Now you Philippian citizens also know that when I departed from Macedonia after beginning the work of the gospel there, no church except you shared abundantly with me in the matter of giving and receiving. Even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent [abundant sharing ] over and over for my need, not that I desire a gift, but I earnestly desire fruit which will cause more than abundance in your account. ” Philippians 4:14-17
The Philippians were just a little group of believers. These people were some of the biggest givers I think I’ve seen recorded in any of the 7 church epistles.
Besides the gift of Holy Spirit, giving and receiving is the best kept secret in Church history.
What is the big deal about giving and receiving?
It is the lifeblood of your walk with God. Even speaking in tongues is giving and receiving. God gives you, by way of your gift of H.S., the words to say, then you receive them and then give them back to God. It is perfect prayer. Prayer can be one of three things, supplication, thanksgiving, or just general requests to God. Imagine God giving us the perfect words to pray to Him in all three ways in every area of your life. You are truly giving. Then you receive the fruit of the spirit listed in Galatians 5. Wow!
The Philippians gave well. Paul says you have “done well in sharing abundantly with me in my time of pressure”. That means they gave the right things at the right time. That is truly walking by the spirit.
Giving is like a beautiful act of kindness and humility. Think about it, isn’t it hard to be mad at someone of whom you reached out to tenderly bless? God is so good at giving, He gave us the most precious gift of all. His son and then on top of that, He let us become partakers of His Holy Nature.
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:4
Biomechanics reveal that Giving has a symbiotic relationship with Receiving.
They go together. Imagine a heart without vessels. Or a human brain without blood. This is the level of importance the two have on each other. Everything God made was designed to give and receive. Look at digestion, photosynthesis, evaporation and rain. Every part of life has both. Think of a mother and child. Think of a husband and wife relationship. That’s what makes it a principle.
If one person is told, or believes, they must always give and never receive, there is a nuclear level imbalance going on. There is one place on earth where this goes on. It is called the Dead Sea. They call it that for a reason. It has the Jordan River as its main tributary in but there are no river running out of it. It is also the saltiest body of water on the planet making it impossible for aquatic life to live there. It is riddled with pots of boiling water, quick sand bogs and salt flats. This is not a place we’d call paradise for any living thing. Do you see how it gets out of balance?
In Philippians, Paul is saying he doesn’t want their abundance just for a gift for himself, though he is very thankful, he wants it for a credit to THEIR account. When you give using agape, the right thing at the right time, you are not only giving, but God turns around and looks at every need in your life and you must open and receive. You have just untied His hands so to speak and allowed Him to return the blessing, GOD STYLE.
Look at this verse in Malachi.
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and PROVE me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].” Malachi 3:10
Wow! Do you see that? That’s amazing! Look at the next verses.
“AND I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
“AND all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.” vs 11-12
God will bless and protect you and make you a delightsome land. Wow. But what if you don’t receive the blessings from God. He’s up there with His hand to the crank of the window of heaven, ready to pour on you a mighty God style blessing but you say, “No. I’m okay God. I don’t need it. Keep it for someone else.”
Wow. Aren’t you holy and humble…more like sanctimonious.
Baby, it doesn’t work like that. Stopping God’s hand of blessing and protection with a prideful, no thank you, could stop Him from healing a tumor in your brain, or protecting your kid from getting in a wreck, or simply saving you some time and money at the grocery store. I’d never say no to any blessing from the Guy who knows my every need and loves me enough to take care of it. Giving and receiving are vital to the mechanics of this glorious, sometimes incredulous, walk with God. If you get hung up on receiving or giving for that matter, pray. Ask God to show you the right heart about it. There is nothing like a smooth-running peaceful GOD STYLE life. A life where there isn’t a need, ever. God takes care of them almost before you realize you need them. Isn’t that abundance? Isn’t that a testimony to God and His love? Wow. Now we’re talking about changing the history of the world!
God bless you today!
