Some believer’s would say that Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, was the most amazing day. Others argue that Easter, Jesus Christ’s resurrection, is it. I would agree. Those are the top two, but they are behind this one singular day in history. You might be asking, Terri, if those two aren’t them what day could it be? Here’s a hint. The next time we’ll celebrate it will be June 8th, 2014, fifty days after the resurrection of Christ. Yes it is the day of Pentecost. The calendar is always moving so this isn’t the actual date of the first day of Pentecost. This day was the most amazing day but WHY?
“1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”Acts 2:4
The day of Pentecost is, as some call it, the birthday of the Church. Why is it ahead of the other two astoundingly important days in history? Because God didn’t have to pour out the gift of Holy Spirit. He had to raise His son. But He didn’t technically have to pour out this amazing gift. That’s why this is so amazing. God did this out of love for us.
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that WE should be called the sons of God” 1 John 3:1a
God had already mentioned Jesus Christ, the Messiah, as far back as Genesis 3. He taught the men about himself on the road to Emmaus, look how far back he goes. (Genesis was written by Moses)
“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he (Jesus Christ) expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” Luke 24:47
The Devil knew that the Messiah was coming, everyone knew it. Look at what even Jesus’ apostles asked him after the resurrection and his appearance to them.
“When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” Acts 1:7
The restoration of Israel was on the apostle’s minds. They thought surely Jesus would overthrow their nation and become the reigning and rightful king. They didn’t know what God had planned. But God knew. He planned to not only give us salvation and adopt us as His kids if we believed, He planned to arm us with 9 of the most powerful spiritual weapons that could ever face the Devil, mankind’s enemy. What did He arm us with on the day of Pentecost?
He tells us in 1 Corinthians.
The first thing He says is.
“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.”
“Gifts” is in italics, which is an indication to the reader that the word was added by the translators and not in the original texts. Gifts is a word man used, not God. This literally should read “Now with concern to spiritual matters, brethren I do not want you to stay ignorant.” The word “spiritual” is pneumatikos in the Greek. Literally it means, things of the spirit or spiritual matters. There is much confusion around the world about this one little added word. So much so, that now people believe they only have one spiritual gift and they are gifted at different times with that one special gift. No, God does not want us to be ignorant. We must avoid error and learn what He is talking about when it comes to what He armed us with spiritually. We cannot put all our faith on a word that was not even in the original texts. There is sooo much more here that I want to tell you so I’m offering a class to all those who are interested.
It will be a webinar called,
“Understanding Your Gift of Holy Spirit”
November 2nd, 2013
at 9:00 am-12:00 pm MST.
If you would like to join us GREAT! I will also be sending out emails to all those who subscribe to this blog. It will have a button at the bottom of the email that will say, “Sign Me Up”. There will also be a small cost, $5 each. This price will include handouts for the class and my ebook called the “5 Basics for Growth”.
I’ve wanted to teach this class for sometime now but haven’t had a green light to do it. So here we go. I’m going to need your help spreading the word. If you aren’t subscribed to the blog, or have friends who don’t know about it, send them a link to the front page. They can put their email in and subscribe there. We can only go as far as we are taught. This is a nondenominational teaching based on the rightly divided Word of God. If you are tired of church lingo or people dodging your questions about Holy Spirit, this is the class for you. You will receive the first email about the class Wednesday October 16th (2 days from today). If you do not wish to attend the webinar or receive any more emails about the class, unsubscribe at the bottom of that first email.
We are going to have so much fun! I’ll be able to handle questions after the class, and I would also like to offer a second class to more advanced students at the end. (More to come on that.) Once again this is a biblically based class for those who truly yearn to learn more about God’s gift to His children. I have never had the opportunity to teach this subject to my satisfaction and have never taught another class like this. Do not miss this opportunity to see God work in your life in AMAZING ways. Talk to you again soon!
God bless you today
