There is a principle that says, we cannot give what we do not have.
- Out of a grateful heart comes thanksgiving.
- Out of a joyful heart comes rejoicing.
- Out of an honest heart comes honesty.
- Out of a bitter heart comes bitterness.
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Luke 6:45
The world tries to convince us that our heart is not qualified to speak God’s Word or that we’re not worthy in some way. The world tries to convince us that we are not qualified in any field or subject. We then go to huge lengths to become qualified and worthy of our job, our relationships, our parenting, our physical appearance and our lives. We primp, we shop and we educate ourselves so that we can point and say, see now I’m qualified.
God doesn’t call the worthy.
God makes them worthy.
God doesn’t call those who are qualified.
God qualifies them that are called.
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
These men were only giving what they had inside them. It didn’t require a degree from Harvard or some la the dah pomp and circumstance school. They just gave. What did they give?
“1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, [being] the ninth [hour]. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Acts 3:1:6
This man looked on them expecting something in return from them. He had a huge need. Peter didn’t give him gold, he gave the man GOD. He healed the man from the abundance of healing and power Peter obtained from God through Jesus Christ in his own life and heart. “But such as I have give I thee….”
Such as I have.
That statement is huge. Did he say I have a biology and medical degree from such and such a school so that is what I give to you? No. What did Peter have? POWER.
We think we are not good enough to stand up and speak for God out of habit because we hear the world declare it over and over. It says we don’t have what it takes, and that our heart isn’t pure enough. Why not? This is simply a trick to get you not to speak in the name of Jesus Christ. It’s a very old trick.
“And they (the Pharisees and Sanhedrins.) called them (Peter and John), and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.” Acts 4:18
What was Peter and John’s response?
“But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” vs. 19-20
WOW! They didn’t back down. These ignorant and unlearned men acted with the boldness and clarity of a qualified man. Why? Because God does the qualifying not man. They spoke about that which they had seen and heard. Out of the abundance of their mouths they spoke. Is it so different for us?
The old saying still goes, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. But I’d like to add, if nothing nice is coming out of your mouth it’s time for a check up from the neck up. It’s time to go back for a refill of God and His love. It’s time to get an abundance of His joy, breathtaking simplicity and wisdom. It’s time to gain some faith.
Ephesians 5 says, we are to be followers, or imitators of God. Out of the abundance of God’s heart His mouth speaks too. What does God say? John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He GAVE His only begotten son…” Wow. “Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” 3 John 2, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prosperity.” Wow! These are just a few and there are so many more. When I hear or read these verses, my heart fills and out of the abundance of my heart I speak. The same goes for all of us. What could be better to speak that which we have seen and heard? What could be better than to speak faith? That which we have we can give. Isn’t this principle? Isn’t this amazing? How do we have more faith so we can give it?
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
You see God didn’t leave us without an answer. There is a way to always be qualified. Just keep on growing. As you grow speak about that growth you will receive more. He who gives the most receives the most in return.
God bless you today!
