Are You Going a New Direction with God?

Knowing God’s promises, can shake up the old you. I heard a statement about our old man nature. It said, “Don’t just ignore your old man, let him die.” Why would we have to let him die? Oh, probably because he was stinking up the new you. He’s the party pooper, the doubter, the fear monger. He’s the bitter, angry guy who crashes into your dreams and fills them with discouragement. Yeah, I think the old man can die, at least here in my life.

Here God has a new direction for you. He plants this amazing dream inside you then asks you to be a believing believer about that dream. What does the old man do? Well, I don’t even have to say. You already know. So how do you let that craggily scrawny weasel go?

That’s the fun part! Just follow the signs!

Most promises have two parts. We know that God is no respecter of persons, but He does respect conditions. Conditions of the heart being the biggies. So what are the two parts of this promise?

” Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

What is part A, our part? What do we have to do? What is the condition that we have to meet?

Trust in the Lord, lean not on your own understanding and acknowledge Him. Right? Wow. After the condition is met then what?

“He shall direct our paths.”

How much will He direct? As much as you let Him. It is conversely related. You trust Him, He leads you. You trust Him, He leads you. You can trust Him in anything you want. How far do you want to go with God? Let’s read more.

“Happy [is] the man [that] findeth wisdom, and the man [that] getteth understanding. 14 For the merchandise of it [is] better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15 She [is] more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16 Length of days [is] in her right hand; [and] in her left hand riches and honour. 17 Her ways [are] ways of pleasantness, and all her paths [are] peace. 18 She [is] a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy [is every one] that retaineth her.” vs. 13-18

How do we kick the old man to the curb?

Just start trusting God on everything you can think of. When I was first learning this concept I ask God questions like this. “God if you were me what would you do today?”, “God how would you handle that questions, statement or action?” This “way” of asking God, “God if you were me” takes all the pride, doubt, and defensiveness out of walking with God. It makes it easy because then I’m not tripping over my own stubbornness. I just put it out there for Him. A huge help is in getting quiet. Great cargos in life come in over quiet seas. Settle your thoughts, settle your mind and then ask the question. The answer will come because God knew you were going to ask before you asked it. Just start doing it. Believing is an action word. You have to act. Action sets off all kinds of explosions in your mind. Explosions of joy, momentum, motivation, more believing. In fact! Look at what the fruit of your action can give you.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

Wow, I don’t even understand all those fully, but I know they come in a cluster, like a cluster of grapes on a vine. It’s a whole package.

How exciting! And just think this is just the first day of the rest of eternity. So if you don’t get it 100% correct today, keep trying. God still loves you and is rooting for you. He’s in this for you. You are the prize. You are the amazing gift to Him. In return, He pores it on.

God bless You in your new direction today!
