What is an Exact Measure of Holy Spirit?

Last week we covered some pretty amazing things about our spiritual body. (See bottom of page for links to last weeks blog series on “Your Spiritual Body”.) I have heard from many of you that the way it was described in the last post was the most clear and concise you’ve ever heard it explained. I’m thrilled to hear it! Because the gift of holy spirit was given to every one of us who believed Romans 10:9-10. God is no respecter of persons. He would never give one of us more of a measure of spirit then someone else.

If I were to fill a bucket to the top with water, could I fill it any more? No. It would be physically impossible. A bucket has a size, a shape, and exact amount it could hold. Isn’t it so precise that I could use that bucket to measure out other amounts? Yes.

“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” Romans 12:3

This verse is usually brought out like a bat to beat the arrogance out of people in the church. They will usually use it on someone convinced they are a prophet. They tell them, you can’t be a prophet, you think too highly of yourself. You can’t be a minister of healing, you are getting a big head.

The last part of that verse says, “according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” How did you get born again? Believing, or faith in Jesus Christ and that God raised him from the dead. God dealt every man by their faith a measure of faith. Is it the same measure? Let’s look.

“But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.” Ephesians 4:7

“THE MEASURE.” There is only one. This gift of Christ is also another way of saying gift of holy spirit, because Christ means anointing. The one who is anointed was always anointed with the holy spirit. We have Christ in us, which is the gift of holy spirit and also the “measure of faith”. See how God is using these terms to define what He gave us. Jesus wasn’t Jesus Christ until he was baptized with holy spirit. It was only after John baptized him did the Bible call him Jesus Christ, because then he’d been anointed.

The gift of holy spirit is also called, our inner man.

“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Ephesians 3:16-19

I love this section in Ephesians. How do we get strengthened with might? By God’s spirit, His spiritual gift to us that anointing that dwells in our hearts by faith. THEN, then we start to comprehend the breadth, length, depth and height. (Btw: That is four dimensions folks.) THEN, then, then we know the love of Christ (which is the anointing that God poured out on the day of Pentecost to all who believed.) THEN we are filled with all the fulness of God. WOW!!!

It is by developing our inner man, strengthening it, maturing it that we gain this inner fulness. Let’s go back a few verses and answer the question of; How does one start this process?

“In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him.” Ephesians 3:12

We go boldly forward and access Him with confidence. Remember our last post about our spiritual download. I listed out all 9 of the manifestations of our one download. If one of us got a bigger measure from God, wouldn’t we be tempted to think more highly of ourselves than we do? Let’s say I decided that I don’t believe in the gift of holy spirit that God measured out to everyman, I believe that God gave all of us unique abilities and talents. Let’s say mine is, painting. Wouldn’t I be tempted to think of myself more highly than I ought to think. The Bible is filled with spiritual truths. God is a spirit. He gave us the gift of holy spirit. Isn’t painting a gift of my soul life? Isn’t it perfected by my investment of my mind, my physical body and my soul than my gift of holy spirit? What I’m trying to say is, if you are a painter, paint for God, but do not be tricked into thinking that painting is the measure of faith, or your anointing. God is spirit. He gives spiritual things. What you do with your soul and body can be totally improved by the use of the spiritual measure. How? By accessing God’s endless supply of knowledge and understanding. God if you were me, what would you paint/sing/play/draw/build today? That question forces you to use Word of Knowledge and Word of Wisdom. There are thousands, if millions, of different ways to use your gift of holy spirit in your day-to-day living. But we all got the same measure of nine manifestations. Some of us are more adept than others, but that does not mean we did not receive the whole measure.

“11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (WHY?) 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect (matured) man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love” Ephesians 4:12-16

Wow! Doesn’t that section just come alive for you now? God wants more for each one of His kids. How far below par have we fallen today when we do not cease every moment to operate His precious gift? Every opportunity to pray, minister, and know the love of Christ is a greater opportunity to know the FULLNESS of God. It is a greater opportunity to receive spiritual fruit into our lives. This stuff gets my blood pounding and my heart racing! Why? Because so few of us do it. So few stay faithful to these hard-won truths. Yet those men and women who did stay faithful are listed through out God’s Word.

Tomorrow, we will start looking at as many as we can handle. We will see together where they used their measure of the gift of holy spirit and which manifestations too. By the end of this series you will have a good start on a lifetime of study through God’s Word. You will see for yourself what God has done through His son Jesus Christ. It will empower you like never before to start and or continue in a life of the mighty fulness of God.

God Bless You Today!
