…has never been made.
Why would you say that Terri? There’s the “Titanic”, “Gone with the Wind”, that new one the “Son of God”. How do you know that won’t be the greatest?
Because everything truly great is done by God, not man. When we get to the rewards banquet in heaven and watch the movie of all the things that never made it into the history books, that will be the greatest movie of all time. And they’ll be things you and I did.
“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” John 21:25
There is one place it is all recorded and celebrated. The same will be for us. We earn rewards for our faithfulness. When that trumpet sounds, all the things of God will be made known in this world. All the people of God will also be made known as they are changed, resurrected and meet Jesus Christ in the air. What if the trumpet sounded today? What if God called us all home?
Wow, what a joy filled thought!
“And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” 1 Corinthians 9:25
That verse means, we will be getting rewards, spiritual crowns, for how we conduct ourselves here during this life. WOW! I can’t begin to imagine how cool that will be. There are a lot of wonderful things to look forward to at that banquet, but did you know we can get rewards here, during our life, too?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love (agape), joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22
None of the rewards above, or fruit, are physical rewards, they are spiritual rewards. It’s not like God said, I’ll give you $50 for every time you’re nice to your neighbor. These are not physical rewards, they are spiritual rewards. Joy is a spiritual effervescence given by God. Love…well God is love. Peace, patience etc. All of these are spiritually given to us as reward or fruit of our labor in the spirit. You could argue and say, “I’m joyful without doing anything for God. I have plenty of joy.” Well, joy and happiness are two very different things. We are happy because our physical world and surroundings provides for us, creating warmth and happiness. Deep down joy is not emotional or physical. It is spiritual. Love, agape, is a spiritual love because it is thee love of God. You can only get it from one place. And so on and so forth.
So how do we get these spiritual rewards now?
The trumpet may sound a thousand years from now, so how does one receive them? They are spiritual, so we must operate our spirit. We operate God’s gift of holy spirit. Why do that? There’s just one reason and only one. We operate our gift of holy spirit because we love God. I’ve tried to operate it out of my love for people, or even out of love for myself, but I am too mortal, selfish and human. I just can’t. But that’s not how we are with God. God is pure. He doesn’t hold guile or calculate our sins against us like we humans do. He throws them as far as the east is from the west and never, I mean never, brings them up again.
The only way we can love God and operate this marvelous gift is because He first loved us.
“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous (hard to do).” 1 John 5:2-3
“Commandments” is a big word for all the little things God asks us to do.
He just asks. He asks that we call a friend, or drop a note in the mail, or pray, or speak in tongues, or minister healing to someone. He just asks. It’s our choice if we want to do them. It says right there He’ll never ask us to do something that is too hard for us to do. As we grow and mature in our spiritual knowledge, then He just asks a little more. The more we obey, the more fruit we receive. Then the more He asks again and the more fruit we receive etc… Look how God asked the Israelites.
“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require (ask) of thee, but to fear (respect above all others) the LORD thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?” Deuteronomy 10:12-13
Now, look how He asks us today.
“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor.” Ephesians 5:2
“And this is love, that we walk after His commandments. This is the commandment, that, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.” 1 John 1:6
God asks that we walk in love.
He asks that we:
Walk, in our life towards other people and Him,
in, abide in, stay in,
Love, the spiritual love of God who is Holy and who is Spirit.
How can we do that?
By learning how to operate His precious gift.
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”2 Corinthians 4:7
Our treasure is not only laid up in heaven, it is here, it is in the now. We have this moment, now, to walk in love. You see, God rewards us twice. Once, in the here and now with His spiritual fruit, and later, at the rewards banquet when we receive our crowns. Which in my opinion is just another version of lifetime achievement awards for walking in love.
So how about it? It’s simple to begin.
God Bless You Today!
