Have you ever been around someone who cherry picks verses from the Bible?
That means they pick only the verses they want to use against you. So I decided to cherry pick, but use my one of my favorite verses and use it to bless you.
“1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. ” Ephesians 5:1
The word “followers” is translated from the Greek word mimētēs. We get our English word mimic from this word and it literally means “to immitate”. We are supposed to immitate God. Wow! How does God walk in love towards us? The very next verse talks about how Jesus Christ sacrificed himself to the cause of freeing mankind. He didn’t have to but God wanted a family.
How Else Can We Mimic God?
God is love. As it says in 1 John 1 so we should learn what that is. It’s a good thing He gave us some instructions about what love is.
“4 Charity suffereth long, [and] is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Here are 15 things telling us how to love or agape others, with that real deal love of God. These are the 15 characteristics of the love of God. The love of God is not an emotional, human love. It’s a spiritual love and given by the creator of Love. We have to decide to love with our logical minds rather than wait for an emotional surge. We decide to pray, we decide to mimic, we decide to ask God what is next. How better to mimic God than to ask Him what do to, or what to think about something? A great habit to form is asking God everyday in every way you can think of, “God if you were me, what would you do?” Then get quiet and wait for Him to answer in the still small voice.
I’ll end with the verse right in front of my “Cherry Picked” verse.
“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32
Mimicking God isn’t that hard once we decide to mimic Him. After awhile, it becomes second nature and the only thing we really want to do, because as we love and give, so He Loves and Gives right back.
God bless you today.
