“I have a dream….” Luther
“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their mind to be.” Lincoln
“Always be a first-rate version of yourself…” Garland
“The harder I work the luckier I get…” Disney
Words, scads of words fill our time. I’d like to show you something amazing today in God’s Word, but the concept has been twisted far out of scope by one little word. Before we get into it though, we must agree that the whole Word is God’s Word and the whole Word is Truth. There is no slicing and dicing it to fit suit our needs, we must take it as the author meant for it. And… if we can never go farther than we’ve been taught, the Word of Truth, God’s Word, is the best place to get started.
Look at these words with me from Mark 16.
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with [them], and confirming the word with signs following. Amen”
The word I’d like you to look at lies in the midst of the highlighted text. “With”. The Lord worked WITH them and confirming the word with signs following. It says with, not through. God never possess people. He never controls them or uses them. God works with us and the only way we can have signs and wonders following is because we say and speak His Words. He cannot confirm the devil’s words with signs and wonders, that would reinforce the wrong thing. How many churches, songs, hymnals, and bible studies around the world use the term “God worked through me”, or “I gave myself over to God.” What a twist on the truth! If I give myself to anyone it’s going to be my husband! These are not the words in the Word. IF we do not use and understand the words, we will not get the results from the Word of God that we need.
Look at what else that verse says, “They went forth and preached everywhere…” not just where they were supposed to preach, but everywhere. We get so caught up in locations or rules the world has made. How many of us truly have the courage to do what it actually says. God is going to back it up. Signs and wonders follow those who believe and the rightly divided Word of God.
Look at this one.
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” Philippians 2:13
God works IN you. Not through you. He helps you with your believing, heart, mind and inner life. What is His good pleasure? That you see total abundance in every area of your life. That starts inside each of us. God is our partner in business, our friend, our confidante, our most trusted adviser. There is nothing He can’t help you with, and when you do what He says, He confirms His words.
What do you have to lose?
Nothing but your fear and wrong teaching.
It starts with making God’s Words the priority by which you operate your believing. The words are filled with power and truth. But today, religious leaders have vaunted their words above the Word of God. We run to a pastor, or ministry instead of God’s Word first. When the words of men, the creation, ascend over the words of God, the creator, we become double time losers. Let me ask you this. When was the last time you saw a genuine miracle while sitting in the pews of a church? Why are they filled with disease, heartbreak, and poverty? That is no confirmation of God’s Word, signs and wonders are. SO how far below par have we allowed ourselves to slip as His children.
We saw in the verse in 1 Thessalonians in our last post that “God works effectually in those who believe.” Effectually is not just effective results it’s the perfect desired results. God doesn’t just get you there, He gets you there perfectly.
How important are your words? Never more than the Words of God.
God bless you today!
