Since the beginning, God sought those who would stay His. In the early days of humanity, Adam and Eve were His. But creating us with freewill has been the biggest challenge. It is also the biggest reward. We have a choice. This weekend I read through an amazing reference in Matthew 13, about the garden of the human heart and how it receives the Word of God. What if we could choose to stay His, what if we could build our mental garden space into a blessed place to live, like the real garden of Eden? What if the strength of our faith and mind could become a gardening phenomenon? We can. Here’s how!
Look at the amazing revelation we can get from just a few verses.
“And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some [seeds] fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Matthew 13: 3-9
The apostles didn’t understand that. So they asked him what it meant.
“10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?…
So he explained in plain terms.
18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth [it] not, then cometh the wicked [one], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth [it]; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Matthew 13:10&18-23
When we have the Word spoken to us, it’s our choice whether to receive and how to receive it into our lives. All believing equals receiving so if we believe to hear the Word and receive it, we plow our the soil of our mind deep with the rich fertile choices.
I’ve noticed, most people have an acre of ground in their mind.
Each one is riddled with experiences, learning and or rocks of unbelief. Whether it’s fertile or not is up to us. When God’s Word comes along by way of a teaching, we have a choice. We can either throw the rock out and pull the thorns or we can let the seeds of the Word fall where they may. Wouldn’t you rather get the rocks and thorns out of God’s way? When ever there is confusion in the Word of God, it’s either our lack of understanding, or something wrong in the translation. Every time I run into something in the Word, I check it and check it. When it is the genuine, accurate, rightly divided Word of God, I pull out my preconceived ideas (rocks and thorns) and plant the seed deep. Then, I keep watering that concept, by studying it in the rest of the Word, so I really understand it. I let gestation occur. Once fully grown, that new understanding about God and or His Word, will produce fruit. But I must allow this to happen, in fact I’m in charge of believing for it.
The definition of renewing the mind is; Put the Word of God in Mind and Act Accordingly.
What are some of the fruits we can enjoy from this kind of mental gardening?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
God has, since the beginning, wished to walk and talk with you. He wants to tell you of all the good things He’s done without tripping over any rocks of unbelief.
Today is just the beginning of an amazing eternity with Him. So till your mental space and replace the rocks with fruit bearing trees until you become a gardening phenomenon.
God bless you today!
