Is there anything cuter than your freshly bathed baby?
Their warm little bodies and still wet hair smelling like baby powder. It’s just amazing what little biological chemical triggers start going off as soon as I smell baby powder. I get all gooey on the inside and want to snuggle him close. Of course, they just spent the last twenty-minutes covering every inch of your bathroom floor with water, and there is a ring of dirt in your tub, but who cares! They are just soo cute!
As they grow and we marry some handsome guy, we learn that “after-shower” smell is just as intoxicating. We want to take one more whiff, just to be sure you don’t forget the smell of them.
Did you know you have an intoxicating smell to God?
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
To the one we are the savor of death unto death; and to the other the savor of life unto life.” 2 Corinthians 2: 14-16
It’s that freshly renewed mind smell that God can’t resist. It’s that Christ in you that gets Him all gooey on the inside and makes Him want to spoil you with blessings and love.
Wait a second, Terri! Are you saying that God smells us?
Haha! I’m glad you asked that! God is spirit, spirit is not a physical body, so no, God doesn’t have a nose. But Christ isn’t a smell either its a spiritual reality. That verse is a figure of speech called, “condescencio”. That’s Latin for God making something more clear by coming down to our level, or condescending to us. We never could rise high enough to understand His thoughts and heart, so He has to come down to us, using terms we understand. A sweet savor or intoxicating smell is one of them. I can just imagine God’s heart singing with joy when we get born-again because now we have HIS beautiful new creation inside us that gives us access and a direct line of communication to Him any time we need it.
We’re just so FRESH!
But just like a sweet babies, sometimes they are covered head to toe with the dirt of the backyard. Nothing feels better than getting it cleaned off. Spiritually we can get that same feeling. Here’s how.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
1 John is written to the believers. Believers need to be forgiven again and again. Sins, is the Greek word “harmatia”; which means off the mark. Imagine an archer missing his bull’s eye mark. In that case, he is “off the mark”. Sin causes us to break fellowship or miss the mark of the high calling with God. Confession cleanses the sin and gets us back in full fellowship with God. It’s that simple. This verse literally means, “own up to your faults, admit them and accept the cleansing.” Or haha, for our blog post’s sake…
Take a bath!
Lol… Just because you’re out of fellowship with God doesn’t mean your any less His child. He loves you. He wants you to make a ring in the tub and come out squeaky clean. For a mother to assume her child will never get dirty is pretty silly. God knows the world we live in too. Why else would He give us a simple way to manage the dirt/sin.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7
We’ve got it made! Now, thanks be to unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ!
God bless you today!
