All we have to do is believe the promises of God, not make them come to pass. That sounds like a comment from the wide-eyed fervor of a zealot, a true believer.
“4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus:” Ephesians 2:4-6
“Quickened”, is the old English word for “made alive”. God made us, who were dead spiritually, alive together in Christ, by grace then He raised us up together to sit in heavenly places.
Am I in heavenly places now? No, not at all, in fact, some days I feel like I’m going’ through hell. So how do we explain that? Well, this is like Grandma calling us in for a homemade dinner, and she has our seats marked at the table. They are reserved just for us. We have a place in heaven already waiting for us. Let’s read on.
” 7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. ” vs. 7-9
It is not our job to save ourselves. We couldn’t, we don’t have any way to do it. We can’t work ourselves into that salvation. We don’t even deserve it! But then again, God doesn’t ask us to.
It’s His kindness not our effort. It’s His grace not our good deeds. It’s His gift to give and He can’t wait to give it. The same goes for miracles and healing and for all spiritual things, like understanding, peace, and hope. All these things are fruit of the spirit. God gave us the gift of spirit. Mankind didn’t manufacture it with our hands or minds. So why, would God save this stubborn, hard-headed, prideful lot?
“10 For we are his workmanship (masterpiece), created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. 11 Wherefore remember, that ye [being] in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; 12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us];” vs. 10-14
Why did He do it? He knew we needed it. He loves and pities us. He gave us Jesus Christ to break down that barrier between us. Okay, so now what? I accept it, I am thankful. How do I see God’s promises come to pass?
“6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: 7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.” Ephesians 3:6-7
We have been given great power, now we just need to learn how to partake in it through our believing. We just believe.
Belief, is just coming to a conclusion about a matter.
So let’s say we’re faced with financial battles. Circumstances have us believing or concluding that we can’t overcome the financial burden. We can’t make it over the obstacles. So instead we look at God’s Word for the conclusion. What should we believe?
“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” Psalms 37:25
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
We can conclude, or believe, that God will supply all our need. And we conclude that He would never let His seed (us) beg bread.
We conclude that the Word of God is True and applicable today. We believe that God will, and can, do no less than His written Word. Is God the Creator of the universe able? OH YES! And is He willing? Now we must learn how to receive anything from God.
God Bless You Today!
