“Commit thy Works Unto the Lord and Thy Thoughts Will Be Established.” Proverbs 16:3

Let’s break that down.

The first word “Commit” is very interesting because it is the Hebrew word “galal” and is translated into several different words. Most commonly it’s translated, “roll” or “roll down”. When the Jacob found or dug a well of water his people would cover it by rolling a large stone over the mouth of the hole. When they wanted their sheep or cattle to drink, the men would then push the stone out-of-the-way. It protected the water, but it also took some work to get it moved. The stone protected their most valuable asset, water. They lived in a very dry area. That water was life-giving.

“And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll H1556 the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.” Genesis 29:8

They had to put their backs into it and push with all the power and force of their bodily strength. When we commit to something, we have to put our backs into it too.

“Thy Works,” is the next phrase. Those words are translated from “ma`aseh”

Here’s the list of the meanings.

Deed, work,  thing done, act, work, labor, business, pursuit, undertaking, enterprise, achievement, deeds, works (of deliverance and judgment), work, thing made. Work (of God)

Here’s some examples of how it’s used;

“And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work H4639 and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.” Genesis 5:29

What do you DO for God. IF you are are minister, get out and minister, if you are a helper, get out and help, if you are a prophet get out and DO the work with all the strength you can muster.

“Unto God,” is translated from, unto Yĕhovah, or Jehovah. There are seven names of God, this is the one that means Supreme God, or One true God.

“These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD H3068 God made the earth and the heavens,” Genesis 2:4

This is the most supreme commander, all-powerful, all-knowing all loving God. SO He’s the guy we obey. Is Jesus Christ that Guy? Simply put. No. He’s Jesus Christ, God’s son. God is God. He’s who we get our orders from. Even Jesus didn’t claim to be “God”. He knew that would be blaspheming his Father and the Ruler of all things.

“And thy thoughts” , is all one phrase in Proverbs 16:3 and translated from one word, machashabah.  Machashabah means literally thought, device, plan or purpose.

Here’s a usage of the verse;

“Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices (machashabah) which ye wrongfully imagine against me.” Job 21:27

These are your inner desires, plans and motives or they could be someone else’s. The word is neither positive nor negative.

Wow are you getting excited? I am.

“Shall be established” is one little Hebrew word, kuwn. It means, to be established, be stable, be secure, be enduring. To be fixed, be securely determined. To be directed aright, be fixed aright, be steadfast (moral sense). To prepare, be ready,  and to be prepared, be arranged, be settled.

Here’s one way it is used;

“And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.” Genesis 41:32

That verse in Proverbs is an amazing reminder to have your feet firmly planted, rooted and established on the One True God. It also tells me that your thoughts, perceptions, and understanding of why God had you do something will come after you obey. So many of us get that confused. Commit thy works, just do what He asked. Don’t question, don’t argue. God knows what His plan is. He sees all things.

Listen to the verse right before this one. “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.” Proverbs 16:2.

We think we know what is going on, when God sees every aspect including spiritual influences.

Someone told me a phrase once; When things come up this should be your instinctual reaction.

  1. Stay Calm. Having emotional knee jerk reactions is our choice. Everytime. WE choose how to react.
  2. Take out the Spirits, God has given us great power to affect change right here on earth. Use it in the name of Jesus Christ our power of attorney.
  3. Walk in Love. This is our only way of knowing we’re doing things right. God is love, when we ask Him what to do next, we walk in love.

God knows this situation inside and out and He asks you to walk in Love through it all. How can you do that when you are emotionally tangled up in the situation? Beats me. Emotions are there for a reason, but we have to make sure they are under our control.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7

Or how about this one in the new testament?

“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they ARE the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:14-15

When we commit our works we get rid of fear. We get rid of worry and pride too. We have life and peace. Get your feet moving my friend.

What’s Next God? What’s NEXT? There are billions of people, millions of choices for your life and even more importantly one great big God who loves you and saved you. YOU ARE POWERFUL! Each choice to be led by God is crippling to the enemy and his arsenal of fear. Choose to believe that your very intimate and loving Father will guide you and protect you in every circumstance. You are an heir to His Spiritual Fortune. Claim your right and place. You deserve it!

And I love you dearly.

God bless you today!

Its a Good Day to Have a Good Day

Here are 8 perspectives to help you make today a good day.

1 Corinthians 2 9-001

 1. Look at the sun coming up… the warmth and life it gives to everything it touches. It brightens it pierces the shadows it gives way to nothing! Be somebody’s sunshine today.

“Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.” Proverbs 3:27

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” Psalms 84:11

2. All around you people are going through hardships. They long for a friend who will be there for them and remind them that God is Good always. Be someone’s reminder.

“And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.” Luke 18:19

3. You were chosen before the overthrown of the cosmos to be God’s child and to do good works. That’s a lot of planning and that’s a lot more love for you. Embrace that. You can’t deny it, you can’t change it, so just embrace it. God loves you more than you’ll ever know.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestined us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,” Ephesians 1:3-5

4. Our works and our service don’t get us anywhere with God. He gave salvation to us by grace. That made us holy and blameless before Him in love. We didn’t earn it. We can’t undo it. We just received it as soon as we believed Romans 10:9-10. Do you know what that means? You could never fall so low that God couldn’t lift you back up.

“Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” 2 Timothy 1:9

5. Our works don’t get us salvation, but they do get us rewards during our eternal life. I don’t think that means some of us will have indoor plumbing in Heaven, I think it’s bigger than that. I think it has to do with authority and honor. What is a crown for after all?

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” James 1;12

6. Have you ever kept a bless journal? This is a record of all the known blessings in your life. Start one today, but keep in mind that there are so many that God has not made known to you. Like the time He had angels protect you from a car wreck, or from a different catastrophe. Or the blessings He put in motion years ago and because you stay faithful you will receive them in the coming days. Your life is a giant kaleidoscope of His blessings if you know where to look. Now, just be thankful.

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

7. The fruit of the spirit is blessings that come in waves. It happens every time you operate your gift of holy spirit. If I were you, and I’m me so I’ll get right on this, I’d do it all the time. Now there’s the makings for a really great day.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5: 23-24

8. And finally, imagine your dearest and nearest friend telling you something edifying and special about yourself.  Something only they could know and something so perfectly timed that it brings you to a new place of understanding about your life and who you are. That is what talking to God and fellow-shipping with Him is like. It’s sweet. So sweet and precious that your most inner dreams of the heart is nourished and  strengthened. He never plays games. He is all-loving. He is your Father. He only wants the very best for you. He also is all-knowing and all-powerful so He uses that power and knowledge to help us and to add wonder and goodness to our lives and to our days. Imagine how a day could be so much better after spending an hour every morning with Him?

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.” Psalms 37:3-7

SGW Podcast Radio Show….Okay, it’s really just me talking again.

Hi Everybody!

I recorded our meeting on Wednesday, put some music to it, and now we’ve got a podcast. Yehaw! There is a video at the end of it that the sound doesn’t play too well on, so I added that to this post below. I talk a little more afterward, but here’s the video that I played for the group.

So what the heck am I rambling on about? I don’t want to just say….you’ll see. I think you need some forewarning here.

In this meeting, I go over something kind of cray cray! I had asked myself, what am I doing this for? Why should I care? Then in the quiet of my private thoughts and office at home, the answer came. It wasn’t just a gentle little, “Ah, you’ll be okay. Cheer up kiddo.” From God like I sometimes get. It was a “WHOOP WHOOP!”  And a, “I know! Pick me, pick me!” Then, the next thing I know, I’m listening to this old song I have and dancing around the room. YUP, kind a cray cray.

Whether you get or believe what I’m about to teach here or not, it gives a ton of hope. And there isn’t anything in this world as restorative as hope. So come back here and watch the video when you’re done, cuz then it’s gonna all make more sense.

God Bless You Today!

005: Be of Good Cheer, It is I…

How reassuring would those words be in a crisis?

It would depend on who said it, right? I took those words right out of Mark 6:50. The apostles were rowing their boat across the sea without Jesus and a storm whipped up. Wind and waves were out of control when a spotter, saw a man walking towards them across and on top of the waves. It was Jesus. Now how reassuring are those words? “Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.” Mark 6:50  Then he got into the ship and they went on their way.

Jesuswalk_on_water

Imagine the fear and worry that would’ve crept into their minds! The circumstances were overwhelming! Then boom, there he is, nonchalantly walking across the waves as if the storm was a slight breeze. I guess when you believe enough to walk on water, all other circumstances are pretty minimal. Jesus faced horrifying realities such as death of a dear friend, sickness, devil spirits, unbelief and worse in his ministry. He faced it with that same calm, steady faith that God, his Father, would help him through it. He was a man, tempted with all the fears and worries that we have. How could he have said, “Be of good cheer.” Anxiety doesn’t live in a comment like that. Fear has no place there. How did he do it?

Just one thing.

Access.

Jesus Christ was in full access twenty-four seven with God, the maker of the heavens and earth. He also knew that we would get the same access.

“14 For he (Jesus Christ) is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us]; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, [so] making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;” Ephesians 2:14-19

He knew that we too would have access and it would help us “HAVE GOOD CHEER”. Not anxiety, not fear or worry, cheer.

The phrase “Be of good cheer” is one Greek word tharseō. It is a verb which connotes action. We have to consciously decide. We have to make up our own minds. How many times have troubles fallen on us and we then decide to give into them and let them mess with our cheerful, joyful heart. They say that courage is bravery in spite of the fear. Cheer is faith in spite of the doubts or circumstances. But it’s really difficult to do this alone.

“Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Depend on the access you have.

Prayer and supplication just means, check your Gmail. (God-mail). Go to Him and send off the requests and read through your inbox.

You’ve got mail! Trust me.

He might just tell you, “Be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid.

God bless you today!

Bring in the Birds and Bees

Better Homes and Gardens recommends filling your garden with tantalizing flora and fauna. Besides the spectacular view, they say you’ll attract the birds and bees to your yard and have a summer filled with VIP Nat Geo Wild shows. I’ve had this kind of garden in the past. One year, we planted the whole back side of my fence with sunflowers. It was spectacular! Even the squirrels thought so.

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24

You could say we put out the invite to be friendly!

We can do this in our lives too. A friend isn’t one who’ll judge the state of your home, or criticize you for the load of laundry or taxes still in a pile near your couch, they are the ones who love YOU! So put out the welcome mat and invite a friend to tea/coffee or lunch. I dare you to see what happens.

Keep in mind that God knows everything and everyone. He knows who will most be blessed and most bless you. Ask Him who you should invite. You never know, you might make a new friend.

God bless you today!

20 Tips to Becoming Better than Before

We all know that it takes twenty-one days to form a habit. But how many of us have the perspective that today is a brand new day?  I want to share twenty tips about forming good, healthy habits.

“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16

There are five areas of life so I’d like to break these tips down per area.

bcc flowers

The Spiritual

To ignore healthy habits here would defeat the purpose of good health! Spirit or the Kingdom of God is over everything in the senses world and when we have our vertical alignment strong and renewed, everything horizontally becomes easier.

  1. Develop a daily prayer and study time. Get with your heavenly Daddy every day.
  2. Fellowship with like-minded believers every day. So many people leave this out, but fellowship means sharing your heart with others who will believe with you and cheer you on when it comes to God.
  3. Give. Giving is a huge principle of God’s that open’s wide the flood gates of blessing. Form the habit of asking God, who, where, when and how to give to other people.
  4. “Share” the care. There are so many ways to tell other people how you’ve been blessed by God. This will lead to opportunities, blessing and just some good ol’ fashioned miracles. All we need to do is share what we have seen and heard.

Emotional/Mental

God always seems to work on these two first steps first as a babe. Then, as you grow in Christ or just in maturity, you revisit them over and over. We are never truly done growing.

  1. The renewed mind is a mind clear and free of all the sand in the engine of life. This mind is like the bulging and strong muscle ready when needed. Like an Olympic athlete crouched in ready position just before the gun goes off this mind races with precision and preparation towards a healthy conclusion. Learn how to renew your mind, there are so many tapes and instructors including many articles here on this site to help you train that brain.
  2. The stayed mind is the biggest prize. When you ask God how to think about a person, you learn the right way to “think”. Then the real power comes in your ability to hold that thought in your mind even when circumstances tell you different.
  3. Affirmations are mental vitamins. We should all have our daily dose of right thinking about ourselves and our lives.
  4. Remember to ask, “What’s the Profit?” When people throw negative into your mind you have a choice to accept those words, once accepted, your mind and body will believe them as truth, once truth settles it forms our inner reality. The oneness is on us! We must decide, every minute, what becomes our reality and/or what the profit is of having a reality like that. Oh! that we understood the true power of our believing words!

The Physical

workout sgw-001

At some point you can exhaust this category. Yes, we can get to the peak of personal physical health. If you, like me, are not there yet, here are some pointers.

  1. Brush your teeth two-three times a day. Floss once a day. Now that’s not so hard. Ha!
  2. Work out to the point of sweating and then go at least eight minutes past it everyday. They say a normal healthy body will sweat in twelve minutes of consistent movement. Once you’re there, go a little further. You can do more than this of course, but never do less.
  3. Eat to your health. You know how they say, “drink to your health” when doing a toast? Instead, lift your veggies and eat to your health! Stay off of fried, high fat food entirely and try to eat less carbohydrates and fat. By doing this you’ll start eating more natural healthy foods.
  4. Drink eighty ounces of water a day. That is four twenty-ounce bottles of water.

The Financial

  1. Tithe. Ten percent of your gross income is a great starting point.
  2. Get out of debt. Step two: stay out.
  3. Save for emergencies; then don’t use the money for anything else. Three to six months of expenses.
  4. Live within your means. A budget will help with that.

Relationships

bcc hands

Relationships add the joy and spice to life. They can also add the toxins. Know which is which with these healthy relationship tips.

  1. Be a fruit inspector. People are where they are in life because of choices they made. If you want to change your life for the better, but have someone close to you criticizing you and condemning you, it might be time to change out that relationship. On the other hand, they may not realize what they are doing, so first tell them they are sabotaging your efforts and that you really need their support instead. The wake up call might help them change their life too.
  2. Catch people doing something good. When people in your life make changes for the better or do something positive, reward it with compliments and well– chocolate works for me. Lol… But seriously, let them know how much they blessed you. It will edify them and encourage more good behavior, not to mention, inspire you as well. No body ever gets too much love,  but they get too much criticism real quick.
  3. Work on relationships. Someone once told me that relationships are time spent together. Someone else, very wise said, distance doesn’t make the heart fonder, it makes it wander. Work on the good relationships and they will get better. One great question to ask them is, “Is there anything that I can do to improve our relationship?”
  4. Remember, your heavenly Father moved heaven and earth to have a relationship with you. He gave His only begotten son just so He could communicate with you and vice versa. Sit with Him, listen close and don’t rush Him. He’s worth every second you spend and every ounce of effort you have.

God bless you today!

Making Life Easier with One Hard Step

I’ve heard it said many times that rewards in the spiritual are linked to rewards in the physical. And the biggest cohesive substance linking them is faithful stewardship. Of course, whenever I heard that, I would nod and agree because somehow it made sense. I didn’t know by experience how it made sense, but something in me said,

“Yep, that’s just got to be true.”

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:2

Then, I got a huge dose of reality. So far, I’ve coasted along through life, in a slumber, letting it hit me whenever and where ever it would. I never, except in a few rare emotional cases, grabbed hold of my time, my health or my finances and said, that’s it, we are making changes for the better.

Some of you know, my beloved grandma passed away in February. Since then, several more members of our family, young and old, have passed away in a senseless and maddening spree of death. I was closest to my grandma, but the blow after blow of family members dying really took the wind out of me. I clung to God. When I say clung, it was with desperate nails clawing into the side of a cavernous wall of despair plummeting below me. I screamed, cried and I hurt. I know someone out there reading this, has been there.

Little by little, I’ve been able to slowly pull back up and out of that cavern. But, then I sat on the edge staring blankly at it for a long time. A few people would come and sit there with me. Mostly, I sat alone. Except– I wasn’t alone. God was still there. He didn’t force me to get up. He didn’t condemn me. He was just there. Waiting for when I was ready to talk.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4

Then a thought occurred to me.

“It’s time to start over. It’s time to really live the abundant life.”

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

Can you imagine my, still very personal shock, at this statement? But look, my life had proved as many people, that the thief does steal, kill and destroy. That was easy to see. If I could believe the negative, then why not the positive?

I suddenly realized that yes, they are gone, but I still live.

Life is a gift. It really is.

I could either coast along and let the wind toss me where it would, or I could take the helm, and steer myself into a life I only dreamed of having. As I looked around, I blinked back the foggy tears and took in the state of things around me. It was a like the Titanic, or some large wounded vessel. I needed to make a choice to fix things or drowned slowly.

Yesterday was one of the hardest battles I’ve ever faced. To put it metaphorically it was a three headed, fire-breathing dragon that I’d raised as a baby but now it was hungry and I was on the menu. The dragon’s name was “The Budget.” Uh-huh-huh…. If I didn’t tame this beast, I’d never taste the abundant life just beyond it’s reach. I’m not proud of the slobbering tears, or blubbering fear of failure. But I can tell you, today, one of those heads is chained down and the other two aren’t going anywhere. I had a victory! I was exhausted last night. I could barely talk or do anything. For some a budget is natural and easy. For me, it has been one of my worst and most avoided fears. I’m always telling you to kick fear out of your life. It doesn’t pay any rent.

We attacked our budget, but how about you? I can’t tell you how much easier our life will be. But you can’t do it alone and you can’t do it without a plan. It takes deliberate effort. It takes facing your three-headed dragon. But it means a more abundant life. What does that look like for you?

For us, it means changing things forever.

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:2

dave ramsey pics 1

This is just one way that God can pull you from the depth of despair to life, but it takes little baby steps and being willing to change. I know I can do it. I didn’t yesterday, but now I know. It will just keep getting better and better and better. Now I’m the captain of my own ship, and we’re blazing a new trail.

Come with me!

God bless you today!
