What Prevails in Your Life?

Many a saint and hero win the race by prevailing through dark times. Dark storm clouds gather yet they persevere and push on. Our history books ar full of this struggle! Good versus evil, right versus wrong. But what will the historian say about us? Will they write epitaphs of our courage? Will chapters be written about how we faced our fears and succeeded no matter the circumstances?

summer-beach

I think that all depends on one little word with a great big meaning. I believe it’s in the word “prevail”.

It appears in Acts 19 in this context.

“So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed” Acts 19:20

What a usage! What a statement of fact! We have it on our wall by our door in our home. Every time I see that verse it encourages me.  It exhorts me! It pumps me up! What prevailed? The Word of God!

But first, it had to grow. It had to grow inside each individual person from the inside out. Our lot in life is not to simply suck air and hope things turn out great. We are destined for bigger things. Great things! But first we must work on us. IF the Word of God is going to prevail out in our schools, our work and our churches, it must first prevail in us.

Let’s take this a step further. What does prevail mean?

It is, as used here, the Greek word, “ischyo” and  it has several meanings.

  1. to be strong

    1. to be strong in body, to be robust, to be in sound health

  2. to have power

    1. to have power as shown by extraordinary deeds

      1. to exert, wield power, to have strength to overcome

    2. to be a force, avail

    3. to be serviceable

    4. to be able, can

Wow, right. that is one loaded word!  It has all the potential of massive amounts of creative and unyielding energy and power. It is agape love, earth triumphant forces of nature and God in manifestation doing the impossible all wrapped in one! I mean, WOWZAH! We don’t really see the emphasis until we see the rest of the usage. Let’s talk about that.

Where else is Ischyo used?

“But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole G2480need not a physician, but they that are sick.” Matthew 9:12

They that are powerful, prevailing and healthy need not a physician! Ha! They don’t need to be fixed, they are already living the abundant life, they are already seeing God work in powerful ways. They don’t need to be patched up and put together.

How about this one.

“And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.” John 21:6

“Not able” is the usage. There was so much fish, they could not prevail over them, they could not pull them into the boat.

“And they were G2480 not able G2480 to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.” Acts 6:10

Stephen spoke with so much wisdom that the words he spoke prevailed, they were not able to resist the wisdom. Wow! Just speak the Word, let it do the prevailing.

“For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth G2480 any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.” Galatians 5:6

Love prevails, not circumstances.

“I can do  all (G2480) things through Christ which strengtheneth me” Philippians 4:13

Now we’re getting somewhere! I can prevail over all things through Christ which strengthens me! WOW! What a usage! Are you stuck? Are you feeling less than prevalent? Let this word sink into and heal your soul!

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth G2480much.” James 5:16

I just love the Word of God! This is how it prevails! When we look at all the ways God used this word in His Word to heal us and take care of our hearts. Do we really need to wonder? Do we need to worry?

Take heart and be of a good courage my friend. Keep praying, keep going and know that God loves you and it’s Him and His power that will prevail, you have only to believe it and walk in it!

God bless you today!

Isn’t it time you…

It’s been awhile since I posted last and I’m happy to say, I haven’t been gone forever, just busy. Today, I’d like to invite you to join us. We’ll be doing our first 8 week Bible study/workshop on the “5 Basics for Growth” Book. As I’ve been preparing for this workshop setting, I realised that each chapter touches on a subject in a very simple way that could be studied in far more depth. We are going to have so much fun, and don’t worry there’s not a ton of homework, just a ton of learning. Here is a video commercial that I hope you’ll all share on your social media pages.

What Sort Of People Does God Give Everything To?

Very few of us know what really pushes God’s “Give” button or if there is a button at all. Personally, I’d like to just enter my pin number and out would come my blessing. Wouldn’t that be nice? We make God into an ATM machine.

ATM

But no, God is a person. He has feelings. He has dreams and goals, just like we do. What is God’s goal  in this verse?

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 2

It doesn’t seem like I deserve all that, especially after the ATM comment. Lol… BUT look at that. He wishes that we prosper and be in good health, above all things. That is amazing. It also sounds like there are two of us involved. Me and God. God wishes it, but am I supposed to make it happen? Or will He help me out?  How does it work?

That’s the great thing about being the right sort of person. For the right sort of person, it just happens. No, the “right sort” is not a religion, race or gender. Look at this old promise from way back in Psalms.

“But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” Psalms 37:11

The “meek” sound like they have it made! What does it take to be meek?

I once heard these two definitions and they stuck with me.

Humility is being willing to listen to what God has to say. (Over our own opinions.)
Meekness is being willing to do what God wants done.

God empowers, blesses and needs people who are doers! “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only,” James 1:22

That can’t be too hard right? God does love us and wants us to prosper and be in good health. God is love. God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. I’ve been meek to a boss, and I’m sure he didn’t care if I prospered or was in good health. I’ve been meek to teachers, friends, parents and colleagues. Being meek to God, now is that really that hard? God’s a big guy.

What if He wanted me to do something I couldn’t do?

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” 1 John 5:3

“Grievous” is translated from the Greek word, “barys”, and literally means; “hard to do.” God’s commandments are not grievous, or hard to do. Isn’t that a relief? This verse also mentions something besides meekness, and that’s love. God loves us and now we know how to love Him back. Wow! We just have to do His commandments. Isn’t that meekness?

Meekness is doing what He says to do without an attitude.

God just needs something done. He doesn’t have feet and hands or a mouth. He is Spirit and works inside you for good and for His glory. His glory is ours too. I’m going to add another layer here.

After the day of Pentecost, suddenly it was available to DO a lot more for God. He gave us salvation and the gift of holy spirit which is our permanent connection and interface that seamlessly operates nine manifestations, or functions. These functions are nine of the biggest hugs you’ll ever get from God. And the more you sow, the more you reap. What do we reap? A harvest, or fruit of the harvest. SO here we are working for God, “DO”ing things for Him, like speaking in tongues, getting word of wisdom and word of knowledge, discerning spirits, faith, miracles and healing. I mean we are little powerhouses now and having a blast doing it all the way down the line. What do we get back?

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:23-24

Did you see that? Our fruit of the operating and living of our lives doing the work of the Spirit, is all the stuff we need to inherit the Earth. God asks us to be meek, then, for being meek; He gives us more meekness. Being meek, becomes easy! God asks us to walk in love and gentleness, and for doing that we reap the love and gentleness. God asks us to be at peace, and for doing that we reap abundant, deep, abiding peace!

The longer you live like this, what do you think happens? I would guess you begin seeing the MORE than ABUNDANT life up close and personal. God fills all your cups, He plugs all the leaks and He literally meets your need, almost before you know you have one. Why? Because of that dusty old promise in Psalms.

“But the meek shall (absolutely) inherit the earth; and shall (absolutely) delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” Psalms 37:11

What joy! What rejoicing!

We have a great big wonderful God and He respects conditions, not persons or status. The condition here is meekness. Are you willing to have this kind of life? I know I am, and it’s much better than having an ATM for a Heavenly Father.

God bless you today!

Create Your Own Sunshine

74497___gustavorezende___Kids_6_03

We each have the ability to create our own sunshine. We can do that for others too if they accept it. How exciting is it to pour love and hope and blessing into another’s life and see the sunshine spread? It is so contagious!

Yesterday, I took a long beautiful drive. I turned off all the noise and reduced the sounds to my tires rolling over the asphalt. The sun had not come up when I started out, so by the time I reached mountains, it was peaking over the hills behind me. It lit the path in front of me with a golden swath and took my breath away at the beauty. It turned purple mountains pink, blue skies to deep yellow, and warmed the low hanging fog banks still clinging to the river’s edge.

I smiled when I thought of how certain people add that same effect to my life. It’s like they radiate God’s love.

A friend of mine, Tami Bonnell, CEO of EXIT Realty International, says, We should always look for ways to add value to others.

My husband, Bill Porta, Owner of EXIT Realty Yellowstone, says “Give when the pressure is on.”

These two statements are ways to create our own sunshine.

They get us out of our own head-space and into a place where God can truly bless us. It’s so easy to get lost in the condemnation game or the feel like we aren’t good enough. But all those thoughts dwindle when you give. Try it sometime.

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12 :19-21

Give out a little sunshine. God is watching and blessed every time you do.

God bless you today!

Today is Your Day One

Have you ever wanted to just start over? Were your dreams stolen, your joy pummeled and your heart crushed?

Well today is your day one then. How can I just say that? I mean, let’s be realistic. All that crazy stuff that happened before today, yeah, we know, it really did happen. But today is your day to start over, today is when you draw the line in the sand behind you and start again.

There is a promise in the Word of God about this.  It’s buried in a beautiful chapter of encouragement.

See if you can find it.

2 Corinthians 4:

1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

8 [We are] troubled on every side, yet not distressed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you. 13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present [us] with you. 15 For all things [are] for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward [man] is renewed day by day.

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding [and] eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen [are] temporal; but the things which are not seen [are] eternal.”

Today is day one. Today we have a chance to speak encouraging words into someone’s life. Today we have a chance to forget those things which are behind and press on towards the mark for the higher calling. Today, this moment, this chance, is ours to take. We can only gain a new perspective and move on. Press into your calling. Press into your ministry. ACTION CURES FEAR. LIGHT DISPELS DARKNESS! Just move.

summer-beach

Call that friend whose on your heart. Reach out and lift those around you.  I take that back. Just do what God asks you to do and let the results be left up to Him. You see it is your ministry, your calling, but He who gave you the JOB. Who do you work for and what does He want? Find that out and then do it. Leave everything else up to Him. Let Him be the judge.

Just be true to Him.

“6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

 8. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:6-8

Watch your thoughts and their integrity. Then move on. Move, cuz this life is wayyyy too short.

Today is day one. Make your day one a tremendous day!

First 3 of 5 Keys to Getting Prayer Answered

“I’ve prayed and prayed Molly, but I’m not getting my prayers answered. I’m frustrated!” said the struggling Christian man to his wife.

“God works in mysterious ways. Maybe he doesn’t think we are going to church enough to get our prayers answered,” Molly replies, while wondering what could be wrong with them if God isn’t answering their prayers.

I’ve noticed God gets a bad rap among believers sometimes, because they don’t understand the following procedure. At your work there are procedures for everything, who do you think invented that concept? These five steps, when followed, will put your priorities in order and cut to the meat of the situation. Remember the wonderful scripture in; Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed (quietly stayed) on thee, because he trusts in thee. Okay now get quiet on the inside and do step 1 through 3.

Here are 3 of 5 Steps to Receiving anything from God.

  1. Ask God: What is Available? This question’s answer will put things in perspective immediately. James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. If you find out that what you are praying for isn’t available, or get a “No” as the response when you ask God, then ask a variety of “What is available in the situation?” questions until you get a “Yes”. Such as; you are praying for a new career or job. You ask God, “Is it available for me to get a new job?”, “Yes” is the quick reply. Next thing to do is step number 2.
  2. Ask God: How do I receive it? This question will be answered directly or indirectly. (The quieter you are the better you will hear his voice) In our example above you asked about a new job. An example answer may be, that the name of an old business associate pops into your head. Or out of the blue a friend calls you needing to hire someone. Or God plainly says, look in the newspaper. There are so many options here that number three is immediately the next step.
  3. Ask God: What do I do when I’ve got it? When you get the job, maybe this advice would be, “Show up five minutes early everyday and make sure to give 100% while you’re there. You never know. Or he may say something like,”Make sure you have them take the most they can out in taxes every pay check.” If you are following these steps with all the prayer requests you have, God will be able to work mightily in the situations you are in. Takes all the mystery out of it, huh. Here are a few verses to substantiate your thinking on these three steps. Look for the next post to see the last two critical steps to “Getting your Prayers Answered.”

III John 2 Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.

Philipians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Ephesians 3:20 Now (not ten years from now, now) unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.

I John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

See next post for the last two steps.

Next To God, All We Have is Each Other

people

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” 1 Peter 1:9-10

We were chosen, picked out, called out, invited to the party. And next to God, we’re all each other has. So why do we let bitterness and anger grow? All that does is divide us. Why not work it out? Why not do the good that God so wants us to do? Let go of petty arguments and strife, which, in reality, is distraction.

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,” 1 Peter 1:18-20

“Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:” vs. 21-22

Be genuine.

Don’t be fake. Don’t use false pretenses. Be real with people, especially those who are of the household of faith. Unfeigned is that word, un fake. Or without masks. Love people with the real deal love of God.

We are lucky to be alive in this world, how much more to be chosen by God for something much more wonderful.

Okay, so Terri, I have a problem with someone who’s a Christian, a fellow believer. How do I get it dealt with?

If you have something to say or someone has done something wrong against you, go to the person. Do Not go to all their relatives, friends, co-workers etc. That is called gossip. If someone comes to you to tell you these things, you are participating in gossip. No. This is not how things get handled. Go to the person first. If they continue causing you problems, take them before another trusted christian adviser. Below is what Jesus Christ recommended.

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.” Matthew 18:15-17

There is a procedure.

IF you know that what you are about to tell the person is going to get you out of fellowship with God, maybe because it’s so emotional, go straight to step two. Here’s why. You have to stay in fellowship with God. If you can’t hear Him, because your screaming or too angry to stay calm, it’s a pointless discussion. When you have someone who’s affect on you is a loss of control, just go straight to step two. We are supposed to have a stayed mind and be in control of our emotions so that this can be handled and not keep coming up over and over. God had a plan for His family. It is one of peace and joy not of contention and strife.

I hope this helps when dealing with people.

God bless you today!
